Paul Scholes has urged Man Utd midfielder Bruno Fernandes to “step up†after his “disappointing†display against Chelsea, while he thinks Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has two “problems†to solve.
The Red Devils played out a drab goalless draw on Sunday at Stamford Bridge with both Chelsea and Man Utd struggling to create lots of clear-cut chances.
And Scholes highlighted two areas of concern for Solskjaer after the match against top-four rivals Chelsea.

“A lot of the problems I see are them two centre-halves and goalkeeper well, not so much goalkeeper today but the centre-halves need protecting,†Scholes told Premier League Productions.
“Which means youve got to have your two holding midfield players right next to them all the time and it takes away everything from your attacking ability. They dont get up the pitch, they cant keep the ball in the last third of the pitch because they cant sustain attacks because theyre too deep.
“And this is a recurring them now that keeps going on. If theyre going to get to that next level theyve got to be braver, theyve got to be braver in the centre of the pitch.
“The two centre-halves, leave them, let them defend. Who are you playing against? An average Chelsea forward. Not average, because I like [Olivier] Giroud, but hes not going to run away from anyone. Hes perfect for them two today.
“Mason Mount isnt going to run away from them, [Hakim] Ziyech isnt quick, no pace. Theyve got nothing to worry about. Let your midfield players join in attacks and at least contribute something to the attacking side of the game.â€
Fernandes, who has been sensational for Man Utd this season, struggled to impact the game and Scholes wants to see the Red Devils perform better against the big clubs.
Scholes added: “Theyve got to change it, the quality has got to be better. The big players have got to step up. Again Fernandes today, I cant remember him doing anything. I dont remember him creating a chance, I dont remember him having a shot on goal.
“I dont remember Mendy, other than a couple of times, being brought into the game. So the quality is disappointing, theyve got to get it better against these big clubs.â€
