How do the parties get to majority?
Before we get into the nitty-gritty, here’s a quick explainer on what the parties need to get to majority tonight.
Tasmania’s House of Assembly has 25 seats – five from each of the electorates; Clark, Bass, Braddon, Lyons and Franklin.
The major parties are hoping to secure at least 13 seats to secure a majority government.
When the election was called the Liberals held 12 seats, Labor nine, the Greens two and there were two independents – Sue Hickey and Madeleine Ogilvie.
The Liberals need to hold those seats and gain one to secure a majority, while Labor would need to gain four seats to take the reins.
Just before the election was called, Clark was represented by one Liberal, one Labor MP, a Greens MP and two independents.
Franklin had two Labor MPs, two Liberal MPs, and a Greens MP.
Lyons, Braddon and Bass each provided three for the Liberals and two for Labor.
