A two-year-old British girl has died after drowning in a swimming pool in Portugal, it has been reported.
The tragedy is said to have occurred on Wednesday evening at a house in the small village of Tunes, Silves, in the Algarve.
The little girl was rushed by her dad to a health centre in the city of Albufeira, where she is understood to have been pronounced dead at around 7pm.
A routine investigation is being carried out but the drowning is believed to have been an accident.
The British family involved are believed to live in the area.
A well-placed police source said today: A British two-year-old girl died yesterday evening in a drowning.
The accident occurred in a swimming pool at a property in Tunes in the municipality of Silves.

The girls father took her to a health centre in Albufeira where she was pronounced dead. That was around 7pm yesterday.
The Portuguese National Republican Guard responded to the incident, however the force has not yet issued an official statement.
The incident comes after a British boy drowned in an Algarve swimming pool in July 2018.
The child was pronounced dead after being pulled out of the water at a villa at the resort of Amendoeira, near Silves.
Emergency services rushed to the scene to give CPR to the boy, who had been playing with two brothers, but nothing could be done to save him.
