KUALA LUMPUR: There have been 330 compound notices of RM10,000 each issued for various MCO violations in the country to date, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador.
“Yes, 330 individuals have been issued compounds for not following SOP,” he told Bernama.
He said the decision to raise the compound amount was not to punish offenders excessively or enable the government to collect more money from the public.
He said it was aimed at individuals who repeated the same offences under the MCO SOP such as failure to wear face masks, not observing physical distancing and not providing temperature scanning facilities at premises.
On Thursday (March 11), Abdul Hamid said the compound amount for flouting MCO SOP had been raised from RM1,000 to RM10,000 under the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2021, which was gazetted on March 11 and came into effect on March 12.
Abdul Hamid had said that the police are only authorised to issue compounds and the actual amount is decided by the Health Ministry’s district health officer.
