Liverpool player ratings against Real Madrid for the 3-1 defeat in the Champions League quarter-final first leg

Alisson Becker 5
No chance with the first goal and tried his best to keep out the second, but will be disappointed with the third.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 5
Gave the ball away continually under absolutely no pressure first half and strange header created the second for Asensio. Marked improvement second half and initiated Liverpool goal. Booked.
Nat Phillips 5
Solid clearing headers early on but left flat-footed by long ball for Vinicius opener and not tight enough for the strikers second.
Ozan Kabak 6
One underhit backpass aside, did well to deal with Benzema on several occasions but somewhat slow to react for the third. Subbed.
Andy Robertson 5
Started with some strong running but sloppy in possession at times and exposed defensively. More prominent going forward as game progressed.
Fabinho 5
Bypassed far too regularly by the Real midfield first half and probably tried too hard against his former club. Slightly more disciplined after break but can be so much better.
Gini Wijnaldum 5
Appeared to be running in treacle at times first half but, like so many others, came to life after the break and played key role in Liverpool goal.

Naby Keita 3
Surprise start didnt pay off with the midfielder massively off the pace, barely involved and replaced before half-time.
Mohamed Salah 6
Wasnt give much service first half but at least had a few runs. More involved after break and in the right place to score the away goal.
Diogo Jota 5
Dropped deep in search of the ball before break and then too often lost it when he did. Slightly more of a threat second half. Subbed.
Sadio Mane 5
Could easily have earned a foul before Real’s second when taken out by Vazquez when racing on to a long ball. Kept at it second half. Booked.
Thiago Alcantara (for Keita 42) 5
His introduction provided a greater foundation for Liverpools midfield but it was still a tough evening. Booked.
Roberto Firmino (for Jota 81)
Looked to move Liverpool forward during his cameo.
Xherdan Shaqiri (for Kabak 81)
Did the same.
