After releasing initial teaser images, BMW is opening a new chapter in its tradition of sports compact models with the unveiling of its all-new 2 Series Coupe. The new car is expected to arrive in South Africa in early 2022.
Customers can choose between two four-cylinder engines in petrol and diesel guise. The petrol unit produces 135kW and 300Nm while the diesel churns out 140kW and 400Nm, working in conjunction with a 48V mild-hybrid system. The range-topping M240i xDrive Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre engine with 285kW and 500Nm.
All models are rear-wheel-driven and use an eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. A 230i Coupé, powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 180kW, will be added to the range later next year.

A newly-designed kidney grille, mirror caps, full LED and adaptive headlights, and three-dimensional rear lights form part of a much-changed exterior.
The 220 models ship standard with 17-inch light-alloy wheels, though there are also 18-inch M light-alloy wheels if the M Sport specification is chosen. The M240i xDrive comes with beefy 19-inch alloy as standard, with the option of high-performance tyres.

An M Sport suspension, including variable sport steering, is available as an option for those who want it. The M240i comes standard with a model-specific version of the M Sport suspension, additional front axle struts, M Sport brakes and an M Sport differential at the rear axle. Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers is also available, but as an option.
Inside, there is an 8.8-inch control display and instrument cluster with a 5.1-inch colour display as part of the standard BMW Live Cockpit. Standard safety features include a front-collision warning, speed limit info, lane departure warning and cruise control with brake function.
Features like the driving assistant with lane change warning, rear collision prevention and rear crossing traffic warning, active cruise control with Stop&Go function including manual speed limit assist, park distance control, reversing assistant, reversing assist camera, surround-view, and remote 3D view are all available as options. Also available for the first time in the model is the brand’s head-up display and drive recorder.
Pricing and specification for the local market will be announced closer to the launch date.
