Fury and Joshua will clash on August 14 in Saudi Arabia to crown the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since 1999Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will clash in Saudi Arabia on August 14 – assuming Fury is happy with his contract.
Fury had cast doubt over the fight taking place at all earlier this week when his promoter Frank Warren revealed he was unhappy with the terms of the deal.
That forced Joshua to speak out and demand a resolution – and although negotiations are continuing, Warren is now confident an agreement will be reached.
He told talkSPORT: It definitely wont be on August 7 because thats when the Olympic games are on and thats gonna be a problem for TV.
Besides that, youve got a UFC PPV in the States and UK so if it goes on, itll be on August 14.
I dont think the date is the problem at all, I think everyones agreed that can be moved to August 14.”
Anthony Joshua will take on Tyson Fury this summer
Fury and Joshua agreed financial terms for a two-fight deal last summer but subsequent negotiations have dragged on for several months since they began earlier this year.
Initial contracts were signed in March but without a venue or date being agreed. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn then secured a £150m deal from Saudi Arabia.
Warren has sought assurances over the finances of the deal – but is confident the rivals will meet this summer to crown the first undisputed heavyweight world champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
What were all trying to do is get this over the line, but the only way well get it over the line is by the fighter, Tyson, getting certain assurances,” he added.
If he gets them, hell put pen to paper, but as it is now, hes waiting for the other sides lawyers to confirm what he wants.
We want the fight, everybody wants the fight, for once Eddie Hearn and I agree that we have a common aim here.
But it hasnt been signed, I dont know why hes saying it has been signed
There have to be assurances given and confirmation given that Tyson is happy with.
Its no different to if it were a footballer going to a football club, he would want certain assurances.
His lawyers would look at the contract and his lawyers would want certain assurances that the promises of whats in the contract is backed up by guarantees, its as simple as that.
It will be there [in Saudi Arabia] if the contract is signed, if Tysons wishes are met with what he wants to be assured
I really do feel theres a way forward on this, I do feel having spoken with one of the principles there that he desperately wants to do this deal.
But as I say theres just a couple of things that need to be addressed and Im quite sure well get them addressed and get it over the line and we can get it on.
