PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has conducted 131,706 Covid-19 tests on Tuesday (July 13), its highest daily testing rate, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In a Twitter post, the Health director-general shared a graphic which shows the number of polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and antigen rapid tests (RTK-Ag) that were conducted in the past 14 days.
For Tuesday, a total of 60,595 Covid-19 samples were tested on RT-PCR tests, while 71,111 were RTK-Ag tests.
Dr Noor Hisham said the countrys testing capabilities showed that it could still test at a higher rate.
Our testing capacity could still be increased, for example at private laboratories, which can be used for targeted testing, he tweeted.
In the same graphics, it is shown that 43 private labs in the country managed to conduct 35,443 RT-PCR tests on Tuesday, which is 42.6% of its maximum capacity of 85,518.
If all 92 laboratories – from government to private – operated at maximum capacity, it could take 116,803 RT-PCR tests in a day.
The private labs also processed 56,786 out of the 71,111 RTK-Ag tests conducted on Tuesday.
