JOHOR BARU: The relationship between Umno, MCA, MIC and PPRS is like a bond of brotherhood in Barisan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said through Umno, MCA and MIC, they formed the first coalition in the country where they were duty-bound to work for the people.
We need to continue working hard for the rakyat; there are still more things that need to be done, he said when met after chairing the state MCA meeting here on Sunday (April 18).
The Ayer Hitam MP said many things were discussed during the two-hour meeting, adding that its main focus was on its preparation in Johor for the upcoming 15th General Election.
He however added that it was still too early to discuss seat allocation between Barisan component parties and would leave it to the coalitions leadership to decide on the matter.
What is important right now is for us to focus on our respective areas as we need to work all the time and not only during the election, said the Transport Minister.
We should be closer to the rakyat by visiting them or helping them to overcome their difficulties such as giving medical equipment like a wheelchair or even a bed, added Dr Wee.
Dr Wee said that while such items might not be a problem for a politician, it would be very significant for the less fortunate, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
He added that the Johor MCA has been able to register more than 11,600 people throughout the state to be vaccinated under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Dr Wee urged every MCA division to come forward and help the rakyat with the government’s initiatives like the Prihatin and Permai packages as many still do not understand the procedures in getting the aid.
He also said MCA should look into using social media platforms as part of its preparation for GE15 to answer allegations against them.
This is a creative manner to deliver our message as it has been a trend on various social media platforms such as TikTok and Clubhouse, especially now with the movement control order in place, he added.
Dr Wee said MCA would be organising a nationwide campaign to create awareness among the public about Macau scams as many cases have been highlighted.
He added that he has asked party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon to discuss the campaign with Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.
We have done similar campaigns before such as Say No to Ecstasy, which is held to create awareness about the dangers of drugs to the youth and this time, we are hoping to achieve a similar target with the general public, he added.
