These days no draw is complete without a ‘leaked’ version coming out just before the big event takes place, and it has only gone and happened again.
Friday sees the quarter-final draw for the Champions League, with Premier League trio Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all joining Europe’s big guns in the last eight.
The English sides all made it through their last-16 ties with a minimum of fuss, with Liverpool and City mirroring each other as they beat Bundesliga opposition 2-0 on two separate occasions to record 4-0 aggregate victories.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, although out of form in the Premier League, saw off RB Leipzig as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane each scored in both legs, while City eased past Borussia Moenchengladbach in the same fashion, with all four matches taking place in Budapest due to coronavirus restrictions.
Chelsea also proved to be too good for La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid, winning the first leg 1-0 in Bucharest and following that up with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
