Friends fans finally caught a glimpse of what is to be expected on the reunion special as a trailer was released on Wednesday night.
HBO Max teased the upcoming episode, that will see stars – Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer – come together to reflect on their time on the hit sitcom that ended in 2004.
The footage shows montages of the reunion – hosted by James Cordon – with segments including the cast taking part in a table read of an old script, walking around the famous set and recalling iconic lines from the series.
And after the clip went live, body language expert Judi James analysed the line-up’s gestures – which hinted at ‘conflict’ between two of the names.
Judi acknowledges that the “group dynamic is similar to the show” – even though it has been 17 years since the group reunited on the set but that an “edgy hug” shared between two of the male stars could suggest that not all is rosy between David – famed for playing Ross Geller- and Matt – known best as Joey Tribbiani.

Looking at their non-verbal communication, Judi says: “Matt and David still retain non-verbal and verbal signs of being closely tuned-in to one another, interrupting and sparking off punchlines in a way that shows strong synchronicity, although their greeting hug did look edgy.”
Detailing that there could be a hint of friction, she adds: “Matt approaches David with both arms held out to wrap them around David in a gesture of open affection while David responds with a slightly more rigid body pose, with his hands held away in a curled shape rather than reciprocating with touch and patting.”
Judi also suggests that Matt is not fussed about a reboot of Friends, as she continues: “The rest of the group dynamic is similar to the show, but with Matt seeming to have taken over as group alpha. His splayed posture and the way that he stands almost to attention with his arms at his sides and his chest puffed at the end of the line in one shot suggests easy-going confidence the rest lack, making him look the least invested career-wise in any talk of a new series.”

The body-language expert also points out how Matthew – who played Chandler Bing – did not commit to the same cheery demeanour as fans saw in his heydey.
She explains: “The stars of Friends replicated their signature show dynamic as a group too, with one exception. Throughout these clips its Matthew sitting bent forward and unsmiling and when he does speak.
“The phrase Ill be there for you really comes to life as Jennifer stretches an arm out to offer a comforting, reassuring-looking shoulder stroke as he drops his eyes in a cut-off gesture and rubs his own arm in a self-comfort ritual that suggests he might be getting upset.

“Jennifer and Courtneys signals suggest their relationship and friendship is as tight off-screen as on, with Courtney mirroring Jennifer and both women sitting close,” Judi notes.
She adds: “They seem to share thoughts, speaking together or finishing one anothers sentences off. All three women produce some self-comfort hand rituals when speaking about their relationships over the years, with some stroking and ring-fiddling, but the eye-checking between them suggests Jennifer and Courtney in particular really do have a supportive friendship.”
