The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has cautioned the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, against going after friends and allies of billionaire businessman, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly called Obi Cubana.
HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko said CBN should leave those who abused the naira during the burial of Obi Cubana’s mother.
Onwubiko said the CBN should expose those funding banditry and armed Fulani militias instead of going after Obi Cubana and his friends.
In a statement, the activist said the spraying of naira at Obi Cubanas event should not be an issue because there are other events where the naira is abused.
Its fake news FG denies asking Obi Cubana for loan
He said: The fact that friends and well-wishers who attended the event decided to show appreciation to Mr Obi Cubana, we in the Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria, think it should not become the talking point.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria under the current dispensation should rather be tasked by the media to confront the much more disturbing issue of how terrorism is funded and how armed kidnappers made up of Fulani militia in the North carry out their terrorism-related activities.
Obi Cubana had over the weekend buried his mother in Oba, Anambra State.
The talk of the town burial saw allies of the hospitality and nightlife king spraying money with reckless abandon.
Their action led to insinuations that the billionaire businessman and his friends made their money through rituals.
However, Obi Cubana dismissed such insinuations, stressing that his friends are hard working businessmen.
Their action was contrary to the guideline on handling of the naira laid down by the CBN.
