PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has recorded 2,875 new cases, bringing the nation’s cumulative total to 384,688.
In a tweet on Thursday (April 22), the Health Ministry said of the figure, 2,846 were local infections while 29 were imported cases.
Seven more people succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the country’s death toll to 1,407.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the three deaths were recorded in Sabah, two in Selangor and one each in Sarawak and Kelantan.
All but one are Malaysian citizens.
The ministry expresses its condolences to the family members, said Dr Noor Hisham in his daily Covid-19 updates.
Those who died were aged between 44 and 80, with all of them suffering from underlying conditions, such as gout, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
It also said there were 2,541 recoveries, for a total of 361,267 to date.
The number of active cases is now 22,014.
Of this number, 248 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 115 requiring ventilator support.
Five other states recorded three digit increases – Selangor with 633 cases, Sarawak (474 cases), Kuala Lumpur (332), Johor (169), Sabah (160) and Penang (144).
There were 29 imported infections in the country, while the rest are local transmissions.
Of the local cases, 2,644 are Malaysians while 202 are foreign nationals.
There were 2,541 patients who had been discharged from treatment.
