Harvey Norman has made a massive gesture to Carephone Warehouse workers after the company made a shock announcement yesterday.
The retailer will be closing over 80 Irish stores which is expected to lead to nearly 500 job losses.
Harvey Norman issued a lovely statement on their social media page asking the affected employees to apply for a job at their stores.
They said on Twitter: “We know that the employees of Carphone Warehouse are facing a challenging time following today’s announcement.
“We currently have vacancies within our company and encourage anyone who is now looking for a new opportunity to get in touch with our team at jobs@ie.harveynorman.com.”
A statement from Carphone Warehouse said that this change comes as part of a broader transformation by parent company Dixons Carphone.
It added: “Customers are changing the way they buy mobile devices and connectivity, replacing their handsets less often and buying them separately or as part of more flexible bundles.
“Although these changes in behaviour were anticipated, they were expected to occur over a longer period of time. However, the change in shopping behaviours has been accelerated by the pandemic.”
It also says that it will continue to offer products to Irish customers through Currys PC World stores and on Currys.ie.
