“This is extraordinary news,” the Good Morning Britain host said

Kate Garraway has said it’s the “news we’ve been waiting for” as she reacts to the latest Covid development, just weeks after her husband Derek’s returned home from hospital.
In March 2020, Derek Draper was rushed to hospital with symptoms of the deadly virus and was put into an induced coma.
After having spent more than a year in hospital, Kate’s husband returned home with the Good Morning Britain host updating viewers on his progress.
And Kate was thrilled to hear there is light at the end of the tunnel, with the news that the coronavirus pandemic is now an endemic.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she said: This is extraordinary news.
But Dr Amir Khan warned her: Its not over yet.
Its the news weve been waiting for, surely? Kate replied.
Theyre saying Britain has moved from a pandemic to an endemic, its going to make people think, Oh thank God is this VE day, is it all over?
Dr Amir added: Hopefully we are turning the tide on this.
We still need to take caution, weve seen in India what happens when you lift restrictions too quickly or you dont have any restrictions at all.
The vaccine is really good in bringing down the virus, but I wouldnt say were yet out of (a pandemic) yet.
It came after Dr Amir spoke about the latest update on the coronavirus pandemic: Its a very bold statement from a day called Professor Sarah Walker, whos the Chief Investigator of this study which has been in all the papers.
What theyve done is taken 1.6million swabs from people across the UK over the last few months and compared those swabs to people who havent been vaccinated or are yet to be vaccinated.
What it shows is even having one dose of the vaccine reduces your risk of having the virus, getting symptoms, reduces your risk of symptomatic infection by 74 percent.
But importantly it can reduce your risk of having no symptoms and having the virus by over 50 percent.
He added: We are hopefully turning the tide on the virus.
On Thursdays edition of Good Morning Britain, Kate explained she doesnt want to tempt fate as Derek continues to recover.
She told co-hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray: Its a whirligig. Its been wonderful having Derek at home and lots of little positives, I think.
And whether those are positives because it is genuinely helping his cognition being at home or whether Im there to see the little things whereas I couldnt go in before and we were on FaceTime and stuff, I dont know.
But it feels positive. So little moments of reaction and he actually said something the other day.

Kate revealed Derek had even complimented her on a new dress: I walked in the other day to say I was off to work and he said, New dress? which was just amazing. And it was [a new dress].
I thought that was amazing on so many levels because he recognised it. Second, he remembered and realised I need a lot of flattery.
But despite the positive steps Derek is making, Kate doesnt want to tempt fate.
