After two consecutive days of reporting 6,000 fresh COVID-19 infections, the Philippines on Sunday reported 5,479 new confirmed cases even as three laboratories failed to submit their data on time.
Data released by the Department of Health (DOH) showed that the latest figures brought the country’s tally to 1,548,755, of which 54,262 are active cases.
A majority or 93.4% of the total cases are mild, followed by 2.63% which are severe, 1.63% moderate, 1.4% critical, and 1.2% asymptomatic.
There were 5,573 additional recoveries to bring the total to 1,467, 269 or 94.7% of the total caseload; while deaths increased by 93 to 27,224 or 1.76% of the tally.
The latest data indicates that there were 47,000 tested on Friday, July 23, of whom 13.1% tested positive for COVID-19.
Across the Philippines, intensive care unit beds were 57% utilized, isolation beds 47% utilized, ward beds 44% utilized, and ventilators 38% utilized.
In the National Capital Region, intensive care unit beds were 46% utilized, isolation beds 41% utilized, ward beds 37% utilized, and ventilators 36% utilized.
Metro Manila and four other areas were again placed under a general community quarantine “with heightened restrictions†from July 23 to 31, following the confirmation of the local transmission of the Delta COVID-19 variant. — DVM, GMA News
