Boris Johnson accused of ‘mis-selling’ Brexit deal
Boris Johnson has sacrificed Britains fishing industry to get EU agreement to a Brexit deal, industry leaders have said.
Barrie Deas, head of the National Federation of Fishermans Organisations, said there would be frustration and anger at the significant concessions agreed by the UK government with Brussels.
Under the deal announced on Thursday, there would be a five-year transition period after which EU catch in British waters would be reduced by 25 per cent, compared to the 60 per cent the UK was asking for as recently as last week.
European leaders cautiously welcomed the Brexit deal reached with the UK on Thursday which appeared to satisfy many of the demands made by Brussels and London after four years of tough negotiations.
Europe’s unity and firmness paid off, French president Emmanuel Macron tweeted, adding that the agreement with the United Kingdom is essential to protect our citizens, our fishermen, our producers. We will make sure that this will be the case”.

Turkey welcomes EU-Britain Brexit deal
Turkey’s foreign ministry said on Friday that Ankara welcomed the trade deal reached between Britain and the European Union.
“Turkey, having close relations with the UK in all fields, is also an EU candidate country and in customs union with the EU. We believe that this deal will provide Turkey with new opportunities in terms of its relations both with the EU and the UK,” the ministry said in a statement.
“In this context, the preparations for signing of a Free Trade Agreement between the UK and Turkey have also reached its final stage,” it added.
