Two of the industries most respected, veteran actors, Dilip Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah were recently rushed to the hospital owing to health problems. Dilip Kumar, who had been admitted to a Mumbai hospital earlier this month following complaints of breathlessness, has now been taken to the Hinduja Hospital after he complained of breathing issues. The 98-year-old actor is currently said to be ‘in the ICU’ and is ‘fine,’ hospital sources told a news agency. He was readmitted to Hinduja Hospital nearly 12 days after he was discharged. A hospital insider told the news agency, ‘He was admitted yesterday during the day due to breathlessness. Given his age and recent hospitalisation, the family decided to take him to the hospital as a precautionary measure. He is fine. He is in the ICU so that the doctors can monitor him.’ Naseeruddin Shah, on the other hand, was admitted to a hospital two days ago after he was diagnosed with pneumonia. Reportedly, a patch was found in Shah’s lungs for which he is undergoing treatment currently. The 70-year-old actor’s family – wife Ratna Pathak Shah and kids are waiting by his side looking after him. When Bombay Times contacted Shah’s manager, he confirmed the development and said, ‘He has been in the hospital for two days. He’s under medical supervision. He was brought in for Pneumonia. There was a patch found in his lungs and it became necessary for him to be hospitalised immediately. His condition is stable and he’s responding well to the treatment.’ Both Naseer and Dilip Kumar are legends in their own time. While Naseeruddin is still doing films that bring him rave reviews, Dilip Kumar, best known for his performances in classics such as ‘Kohinoor’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Shakti’, ‘Naya Daur’ and ‘Ram Aur Shyam’ was last seen in the 1998 film ‘Quila’. He has made fewer and fewer public appearances over the last decade owing to his frail health.
