With the the EU Digital Covid Cert you will still be able to travel freely to these areas

Some of Spain and Greece’s most popular holiday resorts have been marked as red zones on the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control’s Covid-19 map.
This reflects the surging Covid rates in these countries right now with red meaning the ECDC do not recommend travelling unless for essential reasons.
However, with the the EU Digital Covid Cert you will still be able to travel freely to these areas – but may have to put up with stricter restrictions if they are imposed to stem the soaring virus rates.
Ibiza, Minorca and Palma are among the many parts of Spain that have been marked as dark red while the 13 Greek islands which include Mykonos, Santorini and Rhodes have been included.
Greek Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias said on Thursday that Mykonos and Ios were “one step” away from authorities imposing restrictions.
As of July 30, the Covid-19 14-day incidence rate in Spain now stands at 783.67 – on the same date, Ireland’s was 304.24.
Greece’s rate is only slightly higher than Ireland at 346.22, with Portugal at 436.22.
Much of Spain and Greece are now marked red on the ECDC map

However there was swathes of people complaining that they had yet to receive the crucial document which is being used to facilitate foreign travel as well as indoor dining in Ireland.
The Department of Health previously launched a helpline for people with queries related to issues with the certs however it has been plagued with complaints with some people left waiting hours to get through.
Now a dedicated website has been launched for people to apply for their certs without having to call the helpline.
People will also be able to request changes on their cert through the site.
A statement from the Department read: “In addition to the Digital COVID Certificate freephone number and the online Recovery Certificate request form, a Digital COVID Certificate self-service online portal has been launched today.
This will allow members of the public to:

  • request changes to their Digital COVID Certificate already received;
  • request to have their Digital COVID Certificate emailed;
  • check the status of their Digital COVID Certificate of vaccination where it has not yet been received; and
  • continue to request a certificate of recovery

“As well as the helpline, we endeavour to constantly improve the Digital COVID Certificate services and the introduction of this online self-service portal provides another channel to allow members of the public request their certificate. Work is underway to develop and launch further accessible channels in the coming weeks to help meet public demand.”
You can request your site by heading to https://covidcertificateportal.gov.ie/.
